The following is an excerpt from a column by Sean Kirst, published in the Syracuse Post-Standard on June 28, 2015, entitled: “Literacy Journey is Life-Changing for Students, Tutors Alike.”

For all of us, language is like the roots of a plant,” he said. “To be able to get the nutrients out of the soil, you have to have language, and that’s what the EOC has done for me!”

Justo Priana, a classically trained guitarist who fled political oppression in Cuba, takes classes at the SUNY Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center.  That’s also the home of LiteracyCNY, and Priana said his music was an act of thanks.  Read full article>
